COURSE DESCRIPTION:

How does one begin a landscape, especially how does one draw a tree or a group of trees? There is so much detail and texture on each tree that it seems impossible to capture its essence.

The class begins by learning how to draw several different types of trees – evergreens, maples, birch trees, palm trees, etc.  After getting comfortable with drawing trees, artists will be guided through the process of selecting a composition from the landscape that adds dynamics and movement to your paintings.  Because our summer days are long and the late afternoon light is so magical here in the Northwest, the time of day is essential for conveying the shadows as they fall across the land.

The setting, a farm resting on the ridge of a local foothill in Oregon’s Coastal Range – allows the painter many opportunities to convey great distances or intimate garden spaces.  All painting mediums are accepted.
